Our Story

The story of Khiah and Cameron began where many love stories begin, at the cash wrap of Forever 21 in Cumberland Mall, in 2010. Khiah spotted Cameron using his dazzling personality and bright eyes to charm her store manager into giving him a job. Of course, he was successful, and their first interaction was prompted by a frustrated Khiah asking Cameron a rather important question: "Do you think my voice is annoying?" like the realization that this could be true had only just occurred to her.  Lucky for this story, a quick-thinking Cameron simply answered "no," because unknowingly, it has been the voice he has been listening to for the last fourteen years.

After a couple months of playful light flirting Cameron finally asked Khiah out on their first "unofficial-official" date at the local eatery; Waffle House. They sat in a booth for hours sharing stories and laughing over Cameron’s beloved All-Star with the grits in a bowl and Khiah’s signature order of bacon. This random date night they were unexpectedly laying the foundation of what would become a lasting relationship.

Fate however had more in store for them. In January 2011, while having a movie night, an unexpected snowstorm hit Georgia. As the snow began to fall Khiah suggested that Cameron head home because “this could get bad” but he, like a true northerner, underestimated how unprepared Georgia was for even the lightest dusting of snow, laughed and said “no, I’ll go after this movie”.  Five days later, as the storm subsided and roads were finally being cleared, Cameron learned two things, how bad snow storms could get in Georgia and that after being snowed in with Khiah, he might be a little bit in love with her.

Later that year the unofficial couple became long distance when Cameron moved back to New Jersey. Despite the miles between them their relationship still thrived. They championed each other to complete goals, they sparked new interest, mailed handwritten letters, and flew back and forth to see one another. However they knew this was not a sustainable way to maintain a relationship and decisions had to be made. In 2013 now official, Khiah made New Jersey her new home. Over the past eleven years, they have traveled the world, embraced the joys and challenges of fostering five children, changed countless diapers, and amassed an impressive sneaker collection—all while choosing each other every day.
